What Lapse means
A policy lapses when premiums stop — there is no cash value to fall back on with term cover. Most insurers allow a short grace period and will reinstate a recently lapsed policy if you catch up, but a policy lapsed for months usually means starting again at your current age and health. If premiums become unaffordable, ask about reducing the sum assured instead of cancelling outright.
